Don’t miss the 20th annual Iron Man Pro bodybuilding contest, Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This year presents one of the deepest line-ups the show has ever had, it promises to be a fantastic show!

Bodybuilding in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The-Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has its official national federation: FECOHAC (Fédération Congolaise d’Haltérophilie & Culture Physique). The federation is very active and always involved in promoting the sports of weight-lifting, powerlifting, bodybuilding, judo, martial arts and even wrestling.

The federation is a member of the Congolese Olympic Committee. National and regional contests are organized on a regular basis, at least once a year for each different branch, and they always attract a passionate and vast audience. Established in 1973, the FECOHAC has today more than 4500 members.

San Marcos bodybuilders and lifters sweep area meets

Local bodybuilders and weightlifters competed in several meets in November. The competitors, who train at the San Marcos Athletic Club, swept the slate clean in both events.

Four athletes competed at the Lackland Bodybuilding and Figure Championship in early November.

Renae Elrod placed first in the women’s open bodybuilding, masters division.

In the early 90s, Irv Dickstein was an executive in Southern California with a hair restoration company. He had a natural thick, curly crop and always kept in shape, figuring it was part of selling a youthful, vigorous image.
He pumped iron at Big Bucks, a gym in Woodland Hills named after the local stuntman who owned the place.

“I traded the company’s service for a membership,” said Dickstein, now 70 and a personal trainer at Fitness First on West Patrick Street. “It was an exclusive club, (with) a lot of celebrities who didn’t want to be bothered.

Weight Belts For Bodybuilding: An Ongoing Controversy

Using weight belts for bodybuilding exercise workouts is quite common, but it is also a controversial practice. There are two opposing schools of thought amongst weightlifters and bodybuilders.

Those who advocate the use of weight belts for bodybuilding believe that a weight lifting belt will protect the lumbar portion of the spinal column. There are also many who categorically teaching online course believe in the use of weight belts for bodybuilding. They think weight belts give individuals a false sense of security, and they cannot take the place of strong, functional core and trunk muscles.
